Separate Vacations

Don’t worry, Ernie and I vacationed together. We vacationed separately from Sophia. Ernie’s parents like to have Sophia at their house for one week each summer. And we like to be rid of parenting for one week each summer. And I think Sophia likes to be rid of us (and be spoiled by Nana and Poppa) for a week each summer. It works out nicely for everyone.

Usually, we plan a vacation for ourselves to coincide with the week Sophia spends at Nana and Poppa’s house. So, after dropping Sophia off with Ernie’s folks, we headed to Seaside, Oregon for some fun at the beach! It was great! We slept in!!!

We played plenty of Skee-Ball at the arcade, and won some fabulous prizes for our efforts.

We drove to Tillamook and toured the cheese factory (Ernie was underwhelmed by the self-guided tour) and had some yummy ice cream.

Then it was off to Cannon Beach. It was so warm in Cannon Beach that we ate lunch on the beach, enjoyed the sunshine, and spent time exploring the beach.

We ate breakfast at Pig n Pancake (my favorite in Seaside) and had lunch at Camp 18 on our way home (such good food – cinnamon rolls the size of dinner plates, need I say more?) And we bought plenty of salt-water taffy!

We had a wonderful time together. A big thanks to Ernie’s parents for making our vacation possible, in more ways than one!
