It's Parade Day!

Yay! It's parade day! The fourth weekend in July is set aside for a local tradition - the Old Settlers Picnic. It is a way for all county residents (old and new - everyone is invited) to come together and celebrate our county's history. On Saturday is the Grand Parade, which we enjoy attending now that we have a toddler!

We met up with some friends (and Sophia's buddies) to watch the parade. The picture is of Sophia getting excited about the horses coming up. She was similarly excited by the big tractors, and the fire trucks. (Side story: Her little buddy was scared by the fire trucks, and their loud horns. So she went over to pat him on the back and told him it wasn't scary, just noisy. Then he declared that he wasn't scared anymore, and enjoyed the rest of the parade. Seriously, how cute is that?)

After the parade, it was off to the "picnic". I'm not sure what we are supposed to do at the picnic. We went for the "fair food" and amusement rides. We decided that with our Disneyland trip coming up, we might want to take Sophia on a test run with rides. At first sight, she decided she really wanted to ride the Typhoon, which has riders seated, and then goes around in a circle and up, like a clock, at high rates of speed. We didn't think this ride was appropriate for her, but were impressed by her bravado. Instead, we decided on two rides aimed at small children.

The first was the Dragon Wagon, a small roller coaster, which I was "lucky" enough to ride with her. Let's just say that she did better than I did. Though it did scare the pee out of her, literally. (PS - I know the picture is blurry, but you can see in her face how much fun she is having, so I chose it anyway. In case you can't find us, we're in the back of the dragon.)

Then it was off to the Sooper Jet, which was little airplanes that went around, and up-and-down controlled by a joystick in the jet. Sophia LOVED making the airplane go up and down, but only in a jolting fashion. She did not think that moving the plane in a smooth motion was any fun at all.

When she cried when we left the amusement area, we knew that she is ready for rides at Disneyland. We might even take her on Space Mountain!
