Pumpkin Patch

On Saturday we headed to a local pumpkin patch for a fun fall tradition. (Does two years in a row count as a tradition?) We went to Stoney Ridge Farm to see the sights. They really have quite a setup, and if you live near us, we highly recommend you check it out. We started by walking through the bin maze (smaller, easier version of a corn maze for the kiddos), and let Sophia direct us. She was quite good and got us out of there in no time! Then it was off to see the animals.

We saw a few miniature horses, chickens, goats, turkeys, peacocks, full-size horses, a cow, and some rabbits (just like on Curious George!). They have a pulley system for feeding the goats, and ramps to send food down for the turkeys and peacocks. Sophia had a blast, but was a bit bummed when the animals didn’t come to eat. Too bad for her we were there 45 minutes after opening – I’m sure the animals were all stuffed after being fed continuously for that long!

After the animals Sophia got to ride the little train pulled by a mini engine and consisting of cars made from plastic barrels. She got to ride by herself and was feeling pretty proud. She looked a bit freaked out at the end, but I think she enjoyed herself mostly.

Then it was off to the pumpkin patch, courtesy of a hayride! Sophia was so excited to see so many pumpkins all in one place. She LOVES pumpkins. We wandered through the pumpkins for quite awhile. We decided to bite the bullet and pay the extraordinary amount and buy one pumpkin for Sophia. (Ernie and I will pick out cheaper pumpkins at the grocery store later.) It was such a fun day for all, and especially for us parents watching our daughter enjoy herself so much.
