Kaitlyn's First Few Days

Well, things are going quite well with the newest member of the Dickason family. She is already a good sleeper (doesn't hurt that she gets a bit of pain meds through my milk!) and just has a very contented temperament. Kaitlyn rarely cries, mostly when she is being changed.

We have chosen to breastfeed Kaitlyn, and everything finally came together today. Yes! The first day, she wasn't much interested in eating at all. The nurses and lactation consultant said not to worry for the first 24 hours. So, we just kept trying it out and giving Kaitlyn the opportunity to practice, so to speak. Then she did decide to start eating, at nearly 24 hours old on the dot. But she only wanted to eat on the left side, never on the right. The lactation consultant provided some tools to get Kaitlyn interested in the right side. And finally today, she decided that she liked both sides equally. The tools are no longer needed, and feedings are much easier!

We look forward to bringing her home tomorrow!
